Photo essay by Britta Jaschinski — Horses have extraordinary hearing; so much so that they can even hear each other’s heartbeats, allowing the herd to sense approaching danger very quickly. When a horse forms a bond with a person, it can attune itself to that person’s heartbeat—it can, so to speak, “hear” our emotional state—and this is precisely one of the secrets behind its healing abilities.

Éva Keleti: “Every photograph reflects life.” — An interview by Eszter Kövesi
Éva Keleti received the Golden Crane statue, which symbolizes the Honorary Grand Prize for Hungarian Nature Photography. Photographer and editor Éva Keleti has not only been a defining figure and influential force in Hungarian photography over the past seventy years, but has also made a significant contribution to nature photography in Hungary. As a jury member of the “Magical Hungary” nature photography competition, she evaluated nearly 40,000 images by Hungarian nature photographers over the course of fourteen years. The photographer, who is ninety-two years old this year, announced her retirement from the jury. On behalf of Hungarian nature photographers, Péter Gaál, founder of “Magical Hungary,” and Eszter Kövesi, the organization’s executive director, visited the artist at his home to honor him and present him with the Golden Crane statue and the accompanying title: the Honorary Grand Prize of Hungarian Nature Photography. In connection with this, the VM team conducted an in-depth interview with her, in which she discusses her relationship with nature and nature photography, her fourteen years of experience on the jury, and everything that photography means to her. The Hungarian nature photography community and Varázslatos Magyarország owe Éva Keleti an endless debt of gratitude for having reviewed and evaluated hundreds of photos every month for nearly a decade and a half, shaping the professional standing of Hungarian nature photographers with her insights. We hope she will continue to delight lovers of all branches of photography with her images and her rich worldview for many years to come!
